General Approach


The Research Unit is structured in 9 projects (SP1-7), including a modeling (PM) and coordination project (PC).  They provide the complementary and specific elemental, chemical, physical, topographic and mechanical information on the soil microaggregates at the micron to submicron scale with overlapping scale ranges.  The investigations and experiments of SP1 through SP7 for the first time will deliver an integrated data set for isolated microaggregates. With this, we will be able to describe mechanical properties, chemical composition and biological activity in their temporal development up to indications about formation and disintegration of microaggregates themselves. PM is responsible for deriving a mechanistic model of processes which were identified by the experimental subprojects as relevant for the formation and stability of microaggregates.
